What is time? Is it just an illusion as some would say? Is it a figment of your imagination created by man to simply structure our lives? Is it a construct finite thing or can it change? Should you value it or just ignore its existence? Who does it really belong to? Is time orchestrated just for you or is it meant to be shared with others? If so, for what purpose?
Time is something hard to describe and even harder to comprehend just how it works because time in the simplest sense is something you can't touch. Or can you? See time is the master of our lives in the sense that we revolve our lives around its concept. We set up schedules, make plans, and even celebrate special events by its measure. While you may not be able to touch time itself, it is something that is real. You can see this every time you touch another person. They are a product of what time is. Time is the special moments and the record of each little detail of our lives. Anyone who has experienced the loss of someone they loved will be able to tell you how precious time is. They will tell you it is something to be valued, cherished and not wasted. No matter what you do, you can never get that time or those moments back.
About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.’” 2 When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. 4 Then this message came to Isaiah from the Lord: 5 “Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life (Isaiah 38:1-5 NLT)
To understand this concept a little bit we have to take a look at the story of Hezekiah, specifically, Isaiah 38:1-5. You see Hezekiah was deathly ill and Isaiah received a message from the Lord. The message was for Hezekiah to get his affairs in order because he would surely die. At the sound, of this Hezekiah wept grievously and prayed unto God pleading his case. In his raw emotion, God saw the tears of Hezekiah and granted him an extra fifteen years upon his life. Then the Lord spoke to Hezekiah the things of which He would do for him and for the people of Israel, all of which would be made true by a sign from the Lord.
See time is something that in actuality doesn't belong to you or me. It belongs to God alone for He is the master of time. He holds every moment in His hand because He is the one who set it all into motion. He knew everything that would ever happen before it ever was even thought of. If time belongs to Him alone, then why has it so graciously been given to us like in the life of Hezekiah? He gives it to us to pour out into others. It is for His glory alone and because He values each and every life more than we ever could! He didn't give fifteen years to Hezekiah for him to be selfish and not share that time with his people. In the same manner God didn't give and doesn't continue to give you this new life in Him for you to keep to yourself. He wishes for you to go share His love and pour out His love unto the multitude.
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. (2 Peter 3:9 NLT)
So why does it seem like God allows things to go on for so long? Why does it seem like God is taking more time than we think is necessary for His return? Why do we always try to rush things in life and waste the time away. The answer is simple. He wishes for no life to be lost, but for everyone to repent and be saved. He wishes for not one person to perish but to enter into the kingdom of God, into His presence and glory so that He may live with them forever. See each moment and breath you are given isn't for any other purpose than to make a difference in the lives of others. Just as God pours out His spirit into us, so should we fellowship and pour out the gospel of Jesus to the nations of the world.
Don't put if off unto tomorrow. Don't say I can go talk to that person tomorrow or I can share the good news of Jesus another time. That person you are seeing may not have another moment because time is not promised to any of us. Tomorrow may not be there and in fact an hour may not be there. I never want to have to go before my God and explain to Him that I was just too busy that day to go and help a brother or sister come to the Lord. I implore you all to cherish every moment, to share the gospel every moment you get, and to make the most of the borrowed time you have been blessed with. This borrowed time is merely a gift that we all need to continue to share and not horde for ourselves. Give the gift of eternal life today through the gift of time bestowed upon you. Allow someone the chance to receive endless time with God because you never know when your last minutes here on Earth may be!
